Why You Need to Participate
For those of you that are not familiar with this process of succession discernment, we encourage you to watch the video excerpt below from our AGM video.
Progress and key dates:
Following Evangel’s AGM on May 2nd, the committee held its kick-off meeting. At this meeting, the committee reviewed the phases of work required and reviewed draft timelines with Ken Russell (District Superintendent).
May 2, 2021 - Committee kick-off meeting to set deadlines for key dates and work to be done.
May 18, 2021 - Committee met to review progress on interview & congregational survey questions.
May 28, 2021 - Church-wide communication along with Pastor Mike’s profile
May 31, 2021 (6:30-8:30 pm) - Committee to conduct initial interview with Pastor Mike & Castina
June 6, 2021 (2:00–3:00 pm) - Townhall Meeting (limited in-person attendance & live broadcast online, similar format to the AGM).
June 7, 2021 - Email link for Congregational Survey to the church
June 8, 2021 - Committee meets to review townhall observations.
June 14, 2021 - Last day to complete online survey (survey closes at midnight on the 14th)
June 15, 2021 (6:30-8:30 pm) - Committee conducts 2nd interview with Pastor Mike.
June 22, 2021 - Committee meets to discern all information gathered.
June 24, 2021 - Committee provides discernment recommendation to the Board.
Town-hall Information Meeting
To give the congregation an opportunity to hear from Pastor Mike on his heart for Evangel Church and for the congregation to ask Pastor Mike questions about his vision and desire to be the next Lead Pastor, we will be arranging to host a church-wide Town-Hall event. Based on late breaking public health order guidance published May 27, 2021, we are preparing to accommodate some in-person attendance onsite for the town-hall, in addition to broadcasting the event live online in a similar live format as the AGM. Please watch for seating reservation instructions to follow from the church office (which will be like previous Sunday service seating reservation processes).
The town-hall event will be hosted by Ken Russell (PAOC District Superintendent) and Trevor Tremblay (Chair of the Discernment Committee), with opportunity to ask questions during the live hosted event. More details on how to participate in the live broadcast event online will be provided closer to the event date. If you have questions that you would like to submit in advance of the event for Pastor Mike to prepare to address during the event, please send them to the committee by emailing dc@evangelkelowna.com. Questions will be taken during the live event as well, time permitting.
Congregational Pastoral Profile Survey
An important step in church leadership transition is to gather current information about the church’s congregation, including the current and future needs of the body of Christ we call Evangel Church. To this end, and after town-hall meeting, the committee will be asking you to complete a short online survey which provides useful insight into these needs. The questions will be designed with the future needs of Evangel Church in mind, including gathering your input on desired characteristics/qualities of Evangel’s next Lead Pastor (pastoral profile). This will assist the committee in its discernment process.
Discernment Process
The above outlines the committee’s intended timelines to work through its discernment of whether Pastor Mike is to be presented as Evangels next Lead Pastor. We also ask that you continue to offer fasting & prayer support covering for the calendar of events and specific committee meetings outlined above. We also know that your prayers are also appreciated by Pastor Mike and his family as they wait upon the Lord through this discernment process. We fully yield this schedule to the leading of the Holy Spirit and should we discern the need for more time to pause, pray and reflect further, we will be obedient to His leading.

Lastly, in response to a request we’ve received, we are sharing with you a summary of Pastor Mike’s ministry experience and related details (attached as a PDF document). We recognize some of our congregation may have missed or may not recall Pastor Mike’s introduction over three years ago where some of his background would have been shared. We trust this profile of Pastor Mike will be of assistance to you as you continue to pray through this process.
